The YWCA of Central NJ announces that it is hosting its Annual Hanging of the Greens event on Monday, December 11 from 7pm to 9pm.
Families, members of the community, and interested parties are invited to stop by and check out the festivities which include food, beverages, and tours of the brand new Early
Childhood Learning Center and Health and Fitness Center. Entertainment will be provided by local artists. Evergreen boughs will be hung commemorating the beginnings of
the "Hanging of the Greens" tradition.
The Hanging of the Greens dates back to the early 1900’s.
During that time, the YWCA housed young women who left their homes for many
reasons. During the holiday season, the
women gathered together to hang greens and ornaments at the YWCA to remind
themselves that home was still in their hearts. We come together now to remember and honor
those women.
Concurrently, the YWCA is also holding its annual Angel
donor program, where individuals can contribute to the YWCA to help educate
needy children at its Early Childhood Learning Center. There are four levels of Angel sponsorship:
Seraphim $1000+
Cherubim $500-$999
Archangel $200-$499
Angel up to $199
Each sponsor will be honored by a handcrafted Angel, made by the children who use the YWCA programs, and hung on the YWCA tree.
If you are interested in the YWCA of Central NJ's Angel donor program, you may buy an Angel at the Hanging of the Greens event or send a check to:

24 / 7 Early Childhood Learning Center
YWCA Central New Jersey has just opened our new 24 hour a day / 7 day a week Early Childhood Learning
Center (ECLC), which is constructed as a second story over the existing gymnasium roof at our Front
Street-Plainfield facility.
The ECLC is designed to operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, serving approximately 65 children per
shift, for a daily total of nearly 200 children. No other facility like this exists in the region, to
our knowledge. It serves families working nontraditional hours, in fields such as retail, nursing,
emergency services, hotel and restaurant services, police and firefighters. It will also meet the needs
of military families who may have a deployed parent.
The ECLC will ensure the safety of vulnerable children from low-income families who, when childcare is
not available outside regular business hours, may be placed in environments or with caretakers who are
not appropriate or even potentially dangerous. The ECLC will save working families from the impossible
predicament of choosing between the safety of their children and maintaining employment.
Open to all families, the ECLC will be particularly helpful to those who are trying to work toward
economic independence. Families who are trying to move from welfare to work frequently have to work
more than one minimum-wage job or work non-traditional hours to "make ends meet." A recent statistic
cited by CBS News stated that a minimum wage worker in New Jersey would have to work 139 hours per week
in order to afford a 2-bedroom apartment. The YWCA will be able to serve families who are facing this
extraordinary challenge with the completion of the ECLC.
For more information, or to enroll your child in the program, please call Children's Programs Director,
M. Renee Abdullah at (908) 756-3500 x.112. We look forward to seeing you at the YWCA!

New Brunswick (May 25, 2006) Over 400 business leaders from throughout Central New Jersey gathered at the
Hyatt Regency New Brunswick for the 27th Annual YWCA Tribute to Women and Industry (TWIN) Awards Dinner on May 25.
This annual award program is sponsored by the YWCA Central New Jersey, a member association of YWCA USA, whose
mission is the elimination of racism and the empowerment of women. TWIN is the oldest and largest awards program
recognizing the contributions of women in executive, managerial and professional roles as well as the progressive
companies who enable their success.
Joaquin Duato and Glenn Mattes, Presidents of Ortho Biotech Products L.P. and Tibotec Therapeutics respectively,
served as Honorary Co-Chairmen of the TWIN dinner. Their welcoming addresses noted the great accomplishments women
have achieved in the workplace. Keynote speaker Kaye Foster-Cheek, Corporate Vice President, Human Resources,
Johnson & Johnson, spoke on the empowerment of women, and challenged women to empower themselves in the model of servant
leadership.
Susan Marion, Manager, State Income Tax Audits, Johnson & Johnson Corporate Headquarters, New Brunswick, a past TWIN
honoree, served as TWIN Dinner Committee Chairperson and headed a volunteer committee presenting the dinner, which
included members of the board of directors of the YWCA Central New Jersey, headquartered in Plainfield.
The dinner served as the occasion to recognize the contributions of 56 women from 51
New Jersey companies and divisions, who were nominated by their firms to receive the prestigious
award. Over 1,200 women have been so honored since the TWIN programs inception in 1980, and the
roster of TWIN honorees reads like a "who's who" of New Jersey business.
TWIN is one of many quality programs presented by the YWCA Central New Jersey. For more information about TWIN
or any YWCA program, please call (908) 756-3500 or visit www.ywca.org.
