Our Mission
The mission of the YWCA of Central New Jersey is and always has been the elimination of racism and the empowerment of women. The YWCA is a women's membership movement nourished by its roots in the Christian faith and sustained by the richness of many beliefs and values. Strengthened by diversity, the YWCA draws together members who strive to create opportunities for women's growth, leadership, and power in order to attain a common vision: peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all people. The YWCA will thrust its collective power toward the elimination of racism, wherever it exists, and by any means necessary.
Who We Are
YWCA Central New Jersey is headquartered in an historic building in Plainfield, NJ, and has served the community continuously since 1907.
Our YWCA's mission is the empowerment of women and the elimination of racism. As a member association of YWCA USA, we pursue our mission by focusing on the social, economic and personal empowerment of women and girls. Although most of our programs are, in fact, coeducational, all programming is presented with the empowerment of women as its guiding principal.
YWCA Central New Jersey pursues this mission in a multi-county region, including Union, Somerset, Middlesex, Morris and parts of Essex and Hunterdon counties.
We are a member agency of the Somerset County United Way and the United Way of Greater Union County.
We serve approximately 5,000 people per year throughout Central New Jersey. We are located approximately 25 miles from New York City, near Routes 78, 22 and on the NJ Transit Raritan Valley train line.
